Couple and Sex Therapist

Jodie Shea grew up in Connecticut and earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Connecticut. She  moved to Seoul, South Korea to pursue personal interests and explore next steps in her career. It was there that a friend helped her discover her passion for couple therapy.

Following this realization, when Jodie returned to the U.S., she enrolled in the Marriage and Family Therapy Master’s program at Central Connecticut State University. While still a student at CCSU, Jodie participated in a Level 1 training for Internal Family Systems that was being run by the university.

Jodie moved to Los Angeles after graduating and began accruing hours toward licensure. Her experiences while pursuing a professional license included working at a youth service bureau/senior center, a large community mental health agency seeing children and families, a residential treatment center for eating disorders, and a group private practice.

While in private practice, Jodie treated individuals, couples, families and both children and adults with a range of diagnoses including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and others. It was at this time that she was able to clearly develop a niche in couple and sex therapy.

She had already begun pursuing additional training in these areas (Gottman Couples Therapy, American Association of Couples and Sex Therapists course, sex therapy through The Buehler Institute). As a result, she saw the need for more sexually informed couple therapists.

Jodie became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in June 2019 and immediately entered private practice. In January 2024, she earned her Certified Sex Therapist (CST) credential from the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT).

Jodie currently lives in Orange County with three cats and a dog. Despite her move to the West Coast, she still returns to Connecticut annually to visit family. Most of her time is spent with loved ones, watching TV/movies, going out to eat, and building her business. She currently operates her private practice strictly online in order to help clients in various locations around California and Florida.

Jodie Shea is a professional member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapist (CAMFT), the Orange County chapter of CAMFT, and the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT).
